>I plan to cobble up two supplenentary dust filters from air condx filters and furnace blowers. I have heard that used this way, air flow has to be restricted to prevent overheating the blower motor. If true, do I narrow the inlet or outlet? What is the best kind and how many air condx filters stacked in line for best air flow and filtering? Any discussion re these units and advice or referral to relevant sites appreciated. Arch

It dosen't matter whether you restrict the inflow or the out flow.
The best way to find out what your particular motor will withstand is to put a clamp on amp meter on one of the blower leads. Start putting filters or in some way start restricting the airflow. You will see the amps fall off. Try to get the amp rating of the motor off the placard if it is still there.
Just get the amps at or below the rating.
It is usually around 7 amps for blower motors.

>RP, thanks for your good help. BTW, I see that HF has a dgital clamp-on meter for sale for $10. I don't know if it has the proper amp ranges and accuracy for testing the blower motor?

>Here is the dust filter I made. I bought the filters from Grizzly. The bag filter goes down to 3 micron. If you filter this small, I don't think you'll have to worry about restricting the flow, since the filter does that. I push the air through the filters but pulling would work just as good.
