I like the outside curve and the way the rim wraps. It leave a nice shadow. It should be easy to pick up. I think I will try to copy your form on a blank I have frozen outside.

I would call that color under the bowl an artifact from the camera/photography. I have a really old digital camera, and the lighting we have in the room where I take the pics is provided by those GE "Reveal" bulbs. It casts a nice warm glow on the room but pictures taken in there have funny colors sometimes. There is more blue in those photos than seems to be in the room. I have experimented with the different lighting settings in the camera - sun/fluor/incand/diffuse and they all make a little diff. Rather than instill even more phony coloring, I don't mess with the photo package color options, instead choose "auto level" and go with which pics look best to me.

>Jim, you're welcome to watch me anytime. Its not so exciting but you'll see I really do only use one tool - unless you count sandpaper as a cutting tool. I occasionally use a parting tool but not on this one. I was able to secure it in the cole jaws using the expanding method to turn off the tenon/finish the bottom.

Is that the natural color of the wood, or did the Walnut oil add the coloring? I ask because the Ash that we sometimes find in Hawaii is almost as white as Holly.

I also use the Ellsworth grind exclusively on all of my gouges. I made holders to fit the 1/4", 3/8" 1/2" and 5/8" Henry Taylor gouges that I have. Works for me.
