turning with inlays

>What can anyone tell me about turning a bowl or vessel that's had a
crack filled with an epoxy/turquoise mixture. I've seen some work
like that, and just wonder how that's done considering that turquoise
is a stone. I'm thinking the tool being used mustn't like that too
much.

>John, you're right, turquoise is a stone and turning tools won't work well. I often use crushed turquoise mixed with epoxy to fill voids in wood. I use my right angle drill with 80 grit sp to bring the turquoise down to the level of the wood.

I think Wally's way might be the best. But I have also turned the stone down using a carbide skew I have. I think a carbide scraper might actually be a better way to go. Just buy a carbide insert off of Ebay, a couple of bucks, and super glue it to a steel rod with a flat ground on one end.

>It seems we all work almost alike. When I set the stones I keep them a little deep and fill over with CA. Cutdown the CA with your tool of choice and sand down the CA and not the stone.
Fast and easy. At 600 grit the CA is shiny clear.
