More new lathe questions.

>While visiting a wood show I came upon a good looking variable speed drive lathe. It was a Toolex International MSL-3815. It seems it was so new the guys knew little about it. I have searched and found it is made in Taiwan by the Mao Shan company.
Has anybody heard of either of these companies?
The lathe looked good for $1000.00 CAN$ ($650.00 US$). 2 HP motor, VSD, handles all the same parts as my old King. And it is $1000.00 to $1500.00 less than the ones I was looking at (Nova or Oneway). Thus easier to justify to the "boss".
Should I expect a cheap or poor quality lathe for this price? What would I expect to see? Or can any machine have quality issues?
Thanks, Bill
