>I grind the convex profile by free-hand, even though I may grind the cutting edge with a jig. The objective is to get the metal below the cutting edge out of the way and remove the hard "heel" at the bottom edge of the bevel. The result will be multiple facets on the bevel, but the wood only sees that one next to the cutting edge. You can use a buffing wheel or soft belt or disc sander if you want to make it look better, but it will have no effect on the tool.
If you don't want to make this profile free-hand, you can use the grinding jig to grind the cutting edge, and then by extending the tool in the jig about 1/4" at a time to make additional passes for the lower bevels. I just find it easier and faster to do it without the jig.
