>Is shellac measured by weight or by volume? So that if a 1 lb cut is 1 ounce flakes mixed with 8 oz of alchohol, is that 1 ounce by volume or weight?

>The "cut" of mixed shellac is stated as the number of pounds of dry shellac flakes to one (1) gallon of alcohol. So a 1-pound cut is 1-pound shellac flakes in 1-gallon of alcohol. You can do the math from there for smaller quantities.
A "close enough" 2-pound cut is a pint Mason jar filled to 1/4 with flakes and then filled to 1/2 with alcohol.
