New Lathe Dilemma
Phil Joines Krum, Texas
>This is the front frame of what will be a bowl lathe. The legs span 34 inches. The headstock will be a 4 cylinder cast iron engine block with pillow blocks mounted on each end. The shaft is 2 1/2" in diameter. There will be several hundred pounds of scrap iron added for ballast. The power will be from a 3HP VFD. Weither to have a bed is still up in the air.
The easy question is one rear leg or two? In either case it will hit the floor about 40" from the front legs. Two would make it easier to add a shelf for the ballast and sides but one would be self leveling.
The hard question is what COLOR? Should it be white like those people? Perhaps gold? Blue? Green? Black? Red? Good old gray? It seems all the standard colors are already taken. I like paisleys in bright greens and yellows on a hot pink back ground but SWMBO is holding out for Salmon with purple pin stripes. It's so hard to be properly artistic!!!
