>Or "Always use a face-shield". Which ever you prefer.
I picked up a replacement shield at Harbor Freight for my headgear style faceshield. My old one had gotten pretty scratched up to the point that I had not worn it at all times like I should.
So with new shield in place and the motor to my Lathe remounted, I set to turning on a piece of spalted maple.
I discovered a fairly ugly fissure that "should" have told me to throw it away. But, I decided to try CA glue first. After several minutes I thought it was set, so turned on the lathe - face-shield on. Caught a heavy spray of CA all over the face-shield and on my hands. Couldn't touch anything for a bit for fear of welding myself to something.
But fortunately, the shield did its job and kept all that junk off my face and out of my eyes. It is ruined, but gave its life to protect mine. Like I said, best $4.99 I ever spent.
