I took it apart and one of the springs had a broken plastic end on it. I think the same switch is on my Delta TS. So the talley is: four or so broken hold down handles, broken switch, and ... . that's all so far. This switch has always been very "tight" and I guess was defective from the beginning. The lathe is about one year old. I almost wish I could return it like you are thinking but I didn't buy it from Woodcraft. Alan in Md.
