>I take mine off to sail and when I get nervous around machines, so far (knock wood) haven't seen a near miss on the lathe. I put them on my car key ring, that way they don't dangle when I lean over, which could be a hazard in and of itself.

I never could figure out why somone would have to be warned about wearing a necktie while turning on the lathe, butI see it all the time. I don't even wear a necktie on the occasions I step into the pulpit to preach on Sunday mornings. ;-)

His wife never really got over it. She told us in church a few weeks later, he had stopped wearing his wedding ring twice before, but she gave him such a hard time over it, he had started wearing it again just a few weeks before he was killed.

The next week, most of the men who worked in factories or the trades at our church had quite wearing all of their jewelry, including wrist watches.

Next I expect we'll see Bill in Bermuda Shorts and sandals wandering the beaches of South Jersey. Gold Detector in one hand, and a shovel in the other. I can see it now,[Beep,..Beep,..Beep,..Beep,..BING!] "Gotcha!" As Bill digs up a lost Rolex, women's gold earing, or some Spanish Doubloons.

Geez. I gotta get over this cold. The Nyquil is making me crazy (OK. Crazier!)

If it wasn't for Eagle Eye Mike Rubes spotting my ring in those shavings, I betcha' we'd never have found it!

I saw a guy short out a piece of high voltage equipment at work one day when his cross necklace slipped out of his shirt and crossed a couple of terminals as he leaned into a machine. He got out with a very bad fright but needed to replace a melted crucifix. Lucky man.

>Yeah, me too. I took woodoworking 101 at the local extended ed. university program. One of the first things we learned was no jewelry. I always cringe watching the folks on tv wearing rings, sleeves, lack of goggles, etc. Besides, my ring has no place in a work environment.

My father and brother in law both work in construction and have not ever worn wedding rings. People with hair (mine's been gone a while) take heed as well...a yound lady's whole scalp was removed by a vertical mill in our shop years ago (before my time, but the story was still fresh). They were able to sew it back!

I took a class at Phil Lowe's place and he even made us tuck our shirts in. I still do that now.

Anyway, be careful folks.

Several years later, he got a call from his high school, stating that someone had found his ring and mailed it to the school. What are the odds? Maybe the finder used Bill's gold magnet?

Excellent idea Bill glad you found the ring that someone lost but I strongly agree with you that rings have no place in the shop. I had a friend that shortly after he got married shorted his ring while removing a battery from his car. He almost lost a finger and right after that I stopped wearing my wedding ring. Now I just pull the ring out for special occaisions and the like.
