There are times when another pad is advantageous for specialized purposes, say the Merret locking pads or the very thin Grip-A-Disk pads, but overall, the Skiltons in my experience are superb.

I'd also say that I find the hexagonal shafts to be a real plus, fitting well when mounted directly power drill chucks, but also fitting in the wealth of 1/4 inch power drivers out there.

I think part of what makes these so good, in addition to the shaft design, is the metal backing plate that provides a firm support surface upon which the layers of neoprene closed cell foam is mounted. I also find their velcro to stay attached better than other commercial pads, and when it is worn out, the underlying neoprene remains sound so you can glue on a new one.

By the way, the Tim Skilton pads come from our Southern Hemisphere friends, and the currency exchange is not as favorable as it was just a year ago.

Like Mark says, I love them. They are the best I have ever used. I have tried several including the Sorby and others and found they would not stand up to power sanding for long. The other tend to delaminate quickly. These will last a good long time.

I have purchased from Steve in the past, but I always like to support Lee Valley if I can. I'm sure you will be happy with them no matter who you buy them from.

I don't mind spending a little more for a quality product. And in my opinion, these are the best.

I'm still using the same sets of pads as used for the test, all the others that were tested at that time have long since been consigned to the bin.
