(not so) live centers
Shawn - in CT
>In less than a year (and I'm not turning every day), I have killed both live centers that came with my VL100. While holding to my ear they sounded smooth when I got them...then they started sounding gritty or rough (like there was no lubrication or maybe a tiny bit of dirt in there or the bearing slightly off or ?). The folks I bought it from in San Diego said this just happens over time. Seems way too fast to me. So:
1) is this really to be expected or am I doing something wrong - can overtightening the tailstock/center into each piece cause this to happen?
2) any comments on the changeable tip live center from Woodturner's Catalog (~$70 or $80 I think)?
Thanks!
