You can get some really nice shavings.
Here is a bowl that is about 12" wide.
I still have some sanding to do on it.

>I am working on a Silver Maple piece right now. The Silver Maple that we have down this way is normally very light colored. It is boring looking unless spalted, then there is a fantastic contrast between the almost white wood, and the black spalting.
If it was my wood, I would see if I could force a little spalting.

Very nice and smooth to work with. One piece was a lided jar about 6 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall. It worked similar to Magnolia but no as much tearout.
