>I got several sections of a hickory tree today. It is not big enough to cut longways and remove all the pith wood. I know that is the part that splits easier. So, if I turn this to much depth there will be a section of pithwood on each side of the bowl. Is this an exercise in futility. Or should I just cut the section thinner and make sort of a plate. With the pithwood it would turn about 12' diam., 5" or so in depth, without the pithwood it would be about 10" diam and maybe 3" in depth. If the pithwood is so iffy I don't want to waste all that effort. Also, any comments on hickory, turning or appearance.
