New tool for hollowforms......(long)

>I first saw this little mini vac when my mechanic used one to clean the dog food out of the air cleaner on my Jeep.(The mice put it there not the dog). My mental wheels started spinning and I thought I saw a good answer to the hollowform chips problem. This unit is made to hook up to an air hose and by means of a venturi principle it uses the air flow to produce a vaccuum effect. It came with a small bag for debris. I removed the bag, cut off a right angle bend which was on the end of the outflow tube and connected the out tube to the 2" hose on my dust collection system.
The intake nozzle is approximately 3/4" in diameter so it fits easily into any hollowform with an opening of 1" or more. I used it for the first time today and it works great. I estimate it increases the pull from my dust collector by a factor of 3 or 4. The wood I was turning was frozen green walnut so the chips tended to cake inside the vessel. This device pulled them out , no problem. It is distributed by Snap-On tools under the Blue Point brand. Not cheap for a couple of ounces of plastic but if you turn a lot of hollowforms and prefer not to blow dust and chips all over the place it may have a place by your lathe. Joe
