I would just suggest that you call AAQ Secretary, Willard Baxter (770-535-2325. Willard has designed a threading maching that costs about the same (it is manufactured by the BestWoodTool folks), and I have heard that it has improvements over the Klein. It fits the Jet or Delta Mini/Midi.

Willard is an honest man, and will tell you about them both.

This likely isn't it! HF catalog shows for $100 more, a 7"X!0" metal lathe with surprising specs (threads from 12 to 52 tpi, 3/4 hp VS motor, 186 to 3000 rpm, reversible, MT2 tapers, 3/4" spindle bore). Far East quality for sure, but I hear it's as popular with some metal turning NGs as the mini Jet is here. The tooling is inexpenive. I wonder what how many reasons my old gray cells have failed to realize as to why the little machine can't cut threads on wood, plus do a lot of other useful things? Arch, Who, once again, didn't answer the original question.

I saw Bonnie use this jig at the 2001 Symposium in St. Paul and have viewed her video on the subject several times. It's the old practice, practice... thing. You might also consider watching Allan Batty's video on hand chasing threads, and Fred Holder wrote a book on making threads in wood which describes using the Klein jig along with several other threading systems, including hand chasing.

I bought mine from Packard Woodworks although Bonnie also sells her jig with correct lathe adapter from her web site. I did email her asking if thread sizes other than 16 tpi could be used. The answer was no.

Replacement cutters are easily availble from MSC or ENCO. I can't answer your question about project size. I've been told that lidded boxes larger than four inches might create problems with lid fit because of wood movement.

It must not be a very difficult thing to accomplish, because I have never seen one used but the threads were easy to accomplish on the first try. Versions 2.0 and 3.0 will have different threads for the jig spindles, so I will have a choice of three different threads. I can cut internal threads as small as 1" and external threads as large as 5.5"
