Dirty air cleaner and old gas

>The most common causes for loss of power for a chainsaw is a dirty air cleaner and old gasoline. Do not just clean the old piece of foam in the aircleaner. Sometimes that doesn't work. Buy a new one, and mix up a fresh can of gas and oil. If you are using an off-brand of oil, switch to the Stihl oil. If that doesn't fix it, there might be something wrong with it.

>Another thing to check is the exhaust port,muffler, and spark arrestor screen. Two years ago my new "Poo-Lan" wouldn't rev up enough to cut poo after only a couple tanks of gas. I took off the muffler & found the spark arrestor screen clogged-cleaned it up, put it back together and it has been screaming ever since.

To be honest, my chainsaw is a 20" Poulan, starts everytime - I bought it at a Pawn shop for $80 and it works for me.

I just don't try and put it in the Husky or Sthil class.

I had that problem with my 021. I had to take the carburator apart and remove the fine particles that had gotten into it over 10 years. It took two times but now it runs just great.

Eventually you can HEAR when the mixture is right. Also, crankshaft seals will often fail, resulting in poor performance or no-start conditions because of a vacuum leak.
