>Hello All,
I have been mainly lurking here for a while. I have answered a few posts when I could.
I mainly turn miniature stuff at the scale of 1"/1ft.
I finally got hold of some spalted maple and the pic is of the afternoons results. I have been turning for a little over three months now so I am still practising.
The coin in the photo is about equivilant to a US silver dollar.

Yes, off cuts are what I mainly use. I haunt craft shops and woodcarving shops looking for "scraps" bags.
I just sold my all time favorite piece by mistake. It was made from a maple knot I found on the floor of my friends shop!

Sorry to hear you lost your favourite piece that way. It's very cool you can work with other peoples cast-offs... Which were probably someones elses cast offs before that :o)
When I'm at home turning I live in Blackpool, which is almost on the same line as York in a Northerly direction. However, it's on the West side of the country. I'm actually in Cambridge at the moment, so 230 miles away from the lathe which is a bit sad.
Do you travel around much when your over, or is it just a case of visiting relatives in the York area?

We try to break our trip up into some for us and some for the relatives. Last year we spent all three weeks in York but usually we pick a village somewhere and spend a week around that area. One year it was Robin Hoods Bay (superb), one it was Carleton in Coverdale and another it was Horton in Ribblesdale.
We have our must do's...fish and chips in Whitby, the beach in Scarborough ect.
This year we are trying to coincide with one of the large miniature shows. I need to show some of my wares.
At this point dates are up in the air.
