The motors that can be controlled with the router speed control are UNIVERSAL motors. They have brushes. They work on AD or DC, thus the name. The router speed control will work with them. Of course, the Jet Mini VS has a controller already in it. Do not use an outside controller with the VS. It will not work, and can damage the electronic unit.
Universal motors as a rule turn in only one direction, and it will be the same direction whether you use AC or DC to power them.. Reversing the DC polarity has no effect on the direction. A reversible universal motor has a reversing switch connected to the motor's internal wiring.
Good controllers use PMW.. pulse width modulation, but a universal motor will run slower at reduced voltage, and with less torque. Sewing machine (home type) are usually universal motors with a simple rheostat to control the juice and thus the speed.
Permanent magnet DC motors are a different breed. They have no brushes, and reversing the DC polarity will reverse the direction. They need their own type of controller. Varying the voltage will vary the RPM, but also the torque. The controllers for this type motor can compensate for it.
The answer to your question is still NO !
