My Delta Iron Bed Broke, Help

>The speed control on my Delta 1440 is jammed stuck. Can't change the speed. It's new, maybe 10 hours. Been trying to get a hold of Delta all day...no luck.
The speed control lever is stuck in high speed. I can still use the lathe. It's not making any bad sounds. It's just that I can't change the speed.
Anybody got any ideas????

>If I remember correctly the 1440 is an expanding pulley system right? Do the pulleys expand and contract properly? They might just need lubing.

>On my old delta if lubricating didn't work then there was usually a set screw that came loose and the pulleys wouldn't adjust.

>The same happened to me mine was also new 6 months old the pulley on the reeve�s drive was bad it was replaced under warrantee. DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR IT YOURSELF YOU HAVE A 2 YEAR WARRANTEE AND DON'T WANT TO VOID IT.

>Mike, I have that lathe and one thing that happened to me was the sleeve on the speed lever slipped over the release button. Make sure that sleeve is pushed all the way down so the release button works. Delta is great about repairs. Alan in Md.

>I have the 1440 and the only thing I can add to whats already been said is that the "pins" that act as speed detents are made of nylon. They can bend/break out of position pretty easily. Examine them to see if that could be your problem.
Occasionally my speed adjustment controls get very difficult, I know thats the time to take the cover off and lube everything - gets silky smooth again after that.
Overall, I am totally disappointed in my 1440.

That is interesting about your Delta Lathe experince. Perhaps you could provide more details about the 1440. Let others know what you like and don;t like about the lathe so those considering such a purchase can benifit from your experince.
