>I was wondering if you use any thin sheet or gauze material to diffuse light. It may be that you rely on reflected light. I have made the setup like yours, but am looking for a way to get it so there is not so much reflections from the lights and there is a shiny/bright spot on the piece.

>I use mostly reflected light- the top panel is foamcore board like the sides. Too much reliance on diffused light can make the lighting too flat-lacking contrast and shadows that give the photo a sense of depth. Pointing the lamps up helps control excessive highlights, some of which are essential for showing reflective gualities of the finish.
