This week's item for discussion

>As suggested a few weeks ago we are doing a weekly "Item for discussion" instead of the tool of the week. This week's IFD is FIBRAL ABRASIVE WOOL. This particular brand is made in the UK but there may be other products that are similar. I just purchased a sample pack to try it and it appears to me to be good stuff. What do you think?

>PS. I should add that this is a non-metallic wool that replaces steel wool.

>Joel, I got this stuff at Highland Hardware. It may not be widely known or used yet. HH had a sample pack as well as large packs of each grade. The sample pack was about $2 for those interested in trying it.

Sounds like Scotchbrite

>Or the Norton product eqivalent,Beartex, which is what I use.

I like that it doesn`t stain green wood or wood with high tannin content.I also like that it works on the Velcro sanding pads.I don`t like that it seems to melt at higher speeds and tears off in textured areas.

All around a good product and I use it on a regular basis, keeping in mind it`s limitations.
