I haven't read the other responses...but in my opinion, a weed pot is for just that. A weed, or dried flower, which obviously doesn't need water. I just drill a hole for the stems to stand in. If you want a fresh flower in it, then yes, you would want in insert.

However, there are weed pots and there are weed pots (and then there is weed / pot, but we won't get into that!)

As some of you know, my wife does Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), and she was recently helping an older friend get rid of her containers, and she came across this one. Her friend, knowing about my hobby, gave it to her asa present, to thank her for her help.

Technically, it is a weed pot---it has a hole in the top, and there is a (currently broken---where can I get a replacement as it seems to be an unusual size?) test-tube in it.

But to call it a weed-pot is to call the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel just another redecorating job!

I think that there is more than one criterion to be used in evaluating any art/craft object.

Both places have glass vials for inserts. Don't forget to check at a local medical supply house also.

William's idea is a great one, but hot melt glue, in time, will deteriorate underwater. Check out a pet supply store for some waterproof silicon that is used for fish tanks.
