>I got my new General 26020VS-2m lathe Tuesday and had it up and running by 500 PM, what a great day. The delivery came at 1130 AM and after running some other errands I came home and started uncrating my new lathe. It took me about an hour and a half to get the machine on the floor and clean up the mess afterwards. Before I moved the machine into its spot I decided to put a coat of polish on the painted surfices with car wax (White Lightening) and polish the ways with Renaissance wax. The finish was flawless and the ways were ground to a nice smooth finish very much unlike the lathe that I just sold. Finally after moving into it position I pluged it in and started turning a spindle and practiced cutting groves and beads with a skew (Raffan) As I was working a good feeling came over me as I noticed how smooth, how solid it felt, how quiet, and how nice it was to adjust the RPMs to suite my needs by turning a knob. My gap filler didn't arrive yet, but I do see the need for it Jennifer (previous post). Well have a good weekend everybody I know what I'll be doing.

You got off to a much better start than I did. When mine arrived, I plugged it in and boom, the ground fault protecter flipped and all the house lights went out. The monster, er I mean lath now has it's own direct voltage connection and is up and running.

Hello Everybody! I figure I've been hanging around WoodCentral for a few years now so I might as well officially post a Bio. I'm Jennifer and I reside in the heart of the Midwest in Indianapolis. You'll usually find me hanging out on the turning side of WoodCentral, but I check the Main forum too. I started woodworking about 25 years ago mostly interested in flatwork; small furniture and other items to use around the home. Then I discovered the lathe and became obsessed with it. I've been turning for about 23 years now. My love and excitement for turning has taken me into the world of teaching and frequent demonstrating. Lots of experimenting with textures, color, burning over the past several years. I've recently begun dabbling in metal clay work and have started incorporating it in to my turnings too. It's another toolbox full of toys! When I'm not turning, I'm hanging out with the love of my life and most honest critic, my husband Clay. In order to keep the lathe spinning and the lights on I spend the other part of my day at an ABC television station directing the evening newscasts.

What price for your General 26020VS?

>Curious what the General 26020VS goes for across the country. I believe in a previous post you said you were in Florida? In Iowa at the Woodsmith Store the General 26020VS is $2799 sitting on the floor. Plus 6% sales tax. The 5 foot long cast iron bed extension is $1199 sitting on the floor.

>$2800's a good price. Must have been imported prior to the increase in the Canadian dollar. The lathe usually sells in Canada for about Cdn$4,000. At current exchange, that would be about US$3,100. Grab it if you're in the market.
