Had to scrape off a lot of the undried finish, and then ended up drying on top of the freezer (as mentioned in one of my earlier e-mails).
On the piece, itself, the bottom is flat--no lip, and, in fact I angled it because there were some nice protusions where I had originally wanted to put the base. Because I do a lot of my turning between centers, that allows me a lot of flexibility.
The bark had come off of most of the edge, but I found a piece that was the right shape for the crack at the back, and glued it on (like a bridge), below.
