Broken plate or natural edged bowl?
Mike Schwing from Maryland
>I can't decide, but if its the latter this is the world's most shallow bowl. Barely any profile at all to this, but there is one, barely. It took three tries to get one of these right. Had to start out very thin, my lathe wouldn't tolerate a thick platter. Used glue blocks with 5 min epoxy, I've had mixed results with CA but never with epoxy. I bought a big chunk of black burr walnut and have been slicing plates off of it. The bark line just keeps begging me to keep it on. This piece has a little of everything; bark, worm holes, burl, curl, sap and heartwood.
There is a story in my family about how my grandmother broke a plate over my Mom's head when she was a kid for talking back to her. It embarrasses my grandmom something terrible whenever its brought up. Might have to give this to her.
