Jet VS mini lathe questions

Due to circumstances, I lost my shop and the Jet mini will fit quite well into a small spce in my apartment that I am turning into a "shop" of sorts.

I have a chance to market these items and want to take advantage of the opportunity.

>I've been turning with a Nova Comet which was the forerunner of the Jet. It doesn't have variable speed. I've done quite well without it. However on my big lathe I do have VS and I love it. The biggest difference for me is in the finishing stages. I like being able to slow the part down to sand. I get a better finish with less sand markes. I should clarify that is when I power sand bowls and the head of my mirrors.

On spindle work I hand sand so I like the lathe to run at the same speed I turn. I also like to slow it down to apply finish but it has to go really slow for this. I usually apply the finish while rotating this lathe by hand because the projects are small.

Now to answer your question. I don't know. I like variable speed but I really don't miss it on the mini lathe. I think I would spend the $100 on more tools, chucks etc.

You do not know what you want to turn because we all keep expanding our wants or wishes as we go.

I would not buy any lathe that was not VS, Small or large.

I have a Oneway 2436 vs, a Vic200 vs and a Jet 1014 vs.
