Artisan Gouges from Woodturners

Harvey Bernstein

>Anyone have some input on the Artisan line From Woodturner's/ Craft Supplies Usa ?

Have you used them, would you use them, are they worthwhile buying. Like em ,don't like em, wouldn't buy them again????

Why?

TIA, Harvey (neophyte)

>I ordered their 3/8" bowl gouge Saturday at woodshow. Thought I was getting a regular Taylor.

Should I cancel order?

>Harvey, Artisan tools are made by Henry Taylor, using the same steel as is used in their regular line of tools. Go for it.

>Harvey, when I started turning I purchased the set of Artisan tools Craft Supplies recommends for beginning turners. Five years later I'm still using them along with other tools I've picked up along the way. They are made well, and perform well. I'm with Wally, have no regrets, they're a good HSS tool.

>Bought the beginners set when I first started turning and the only on I've replaced is the bowl gouge. After 5 years I finally ground it down to a nub. Great tools at a very good price.

>put another vote in the "IN" box. Artisan bowl gouges as Wally said are essentially Henry Taylor tools and have worked well for me. I actually use my custom ground Artisan 1/2" bowl gouge more than my Ellsworth gouge, partly because I don't feel as bad grinding it away since it cost 1/2 as much!

>Harvey,

If I had any complaint about the 1/2 inch Artisan gouge I have it would be that it is too short. Other than that it is a great tool.
