Bowl Critiques Please

>I have finily finished a couple of plates and
one bowl that i like. I would like to have some
of you experts comment on how they look. The
first on is a sweetgun and boxelder bowl. The
next one is a walnut and honey locust plate.
The last one is a honey locust with wenge inlay
in the borrom.

>HI Lester, A couple of thoughts on your pieces. ON two of the pieces, the center disc is oriented face grain as you would turn a bowl, while the outer rings are staves. The wood will have a tendency to expand and contract in different directions, and cause a glue-joint failure. The same thing as glueing in the panel of a raised-panel door...wood wants to move, if you restrict it.....
Your piece with the box alder base does not flow from the sides to the base; it flattens out. from an asthetic point of view, a smooth, continuous flow is preferrable. You can FEEL a good form with your eyes closed. I think that is something to strive for.
On the piece with the wenge center, I think a band of wenge on the rim would tie the piece together, uniting the rim with the center.

boxelder bowl. I though about the plate with
wenge of putting a pice in the rim or may be
in the staves to make it look like a spider
web. But was trying to git it done for Xmas
so the wife could use it. The wife is starting
to help me on desgines and i know the turnings
will git better.
