I have seen the thread below and that reminded me of a mod I had made on my General... First, I loved the General and had it for 14 months, it purred nicely for all that time.
Two things I made for it when I had it, the first was a remote control for ON / OFF, no speed control. Exactly like what comes on the Stubby lathes now and the second was a steady rest.
The remote addition was really one that worth every penny spent, why penny? Because it is dead cheap to make and also quite easily done too. I have a diagram I made for the modification, it is easy to follow with someone that has a minimum of skill. It is only for the 26020VD-M2 though or it's 12" small brother with the same electronics. The PDF plan is free for the asking and may be made available thrue Woodcentral if there is a demand for it.
