Try focusing 1/3 of the way through the bowl if possible. Your camera may have focus lock or manual focus. You also my need to stop the f stop down a little to get more depth of field.

When usingthe digital camera you have the advantage of backing off so the bowl is smaller. This will give you more depth of field also. you can crop the frame on the computer later so the image will now fill the frame. You may have to use a higher resolution on your camera if the image starts to look bad.

This is a technique I've used with film when I could tolerate the loss of sharpness from enlarging.

The bowl is nice, and the lighting is good, as well. The backround clashes with the coloring, I think a neutral color, grey or even black, would accent the bowl much better. I also would not have the bowl propped from underneath as you have it.

I have been making all kinds of different shapes, and really haven't figured out any sort of "pattern" yet... but I am getting lots of experience and that's important to me as a beginner... I do know that I like the foot about 1/3 the max diameter, and I seem to lean toward the straight or flared sides as opposed to rounded... but I dont know why!

I did notice that it was easy for tiny cracks to form if I sanded enough to make it hot, so I did have to re-turn a small section and then be more careful sanding...
