Tailstock advice

>Hello, After six months of searching I still can not find a tailstock for my Powermatic 45. I have an old Boice Crane VS model but need to get the PM going for other types of turning. Any advice on any other methods of retrofitting another brand of tailstock that would fit without much hassel? Thanks, Pete in Toledo, OH

That's a tough one. I would think any tailstock that is the same height and wide enough to fit on the ways could be modified by a good machinist to fit your lathe.
Have you done some searchs on companies that buy and sell used tools. I know there's one in Iowa, and there's JR Redmond and sons in Atlanta. There are probably more but I haven't tried to find them. I know there are supposedly a lot of business's that buy out equipment from schools when they close their shops. Many of these had Powermatics and Oliver's.

>Give Tom, at Mr. Machinery, a try. He may have, or be willing to look for, the parts you need. Bought my first lathe (a 3 phase, motorhead model Oliver) from his father (Tom, Sr.- now deceased). Tom is (as was his father) a great guy and usually very willing to help. Bought my current lathe, a Powermatic 45 from them almost 15 years ago.
