>I was sharpening my turning tools this weekend and got to thinking about some things I have read about turning tool sharpening. I read that most folks don't bother honing gouges. What about the burr?

School 1:
Don't worry, the burr makes no difference and if it does it'll be gone in a few revolutions.
School 2:
All burrs should be honed off.
School 3:
Burrs aren't worth bothering with unless you are doing your final cut and want it as smooth and clean as possible. Always hone burrs for final cuts.
School 5:
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

>I was shown by a master turner that after he sharpens his bowl gouge he uses a slip stone(the wedge shape one).just a few passes.During his turning he will dress the face with a diamond dresser and run the slip stone in the flute.

>That clears it up! Actually, it does. THanks for the help. I'm using a Tormek. I've found it fairly quick to touch up if you are consistent and write down your setup values. I don't turn much/often, so the speed thing isn't really that big an issue. I mostly attempt to turn furniture parts and such.
