Walker Turner L1152 Lathe Parts

>Have been working on restoring this lathe,

and have run into a parts problem.

There are supposed to be a pair of "split rings"

that ride in the 5/32 wide, 3/32 deep slot on

the spindle, on the outboard side, between the

outboard ball bearings and the bearing flange.

On my machine these rings are missing.

How can I replace them ?

Are they standard items, or am I going to have

to try and get them made ?

Are they likely steel, or brass ?

As always, any help greatly appreciated.
