I can tell you from direct experience (2 Jet 1236 machines) that the silicone lube works fine. If some lube gets on the belt and pulley...so what? It'll wear off mighty quick. Personally, I use Brake & Contact cleaner on the pulley shaft when it gets sticky. Soak it pretty good, turn on the lathe, and start moving the speed level back and forth. I then spray silicone lube. Has worked for me for the past 2 years.

As addition to using this stuff on my old Jet 1236, I used it to lube my Unisaw's tilt and blade raising mechanisms. Because it is a dry film, it does not attract sawdust. And it lasts for a nice long time.

Interesting that there is a greese fitting on the shaft but no information for what to use with it. I will try a dry lubricant the next time it acts up.
