VacuuMaster for Shopsmith

Chuck Ludwigsen

>Bill, I was reading about the Vacuumaster chuck right after telling a friend I could not do vacuum chuck turning because I have a solid spindle lathe.

Both my Shopsmith and my older Buffalo lathe have solid spindle. I have modified the Buffalo to take all the same headstock attachments as my Shopsmith, and it is now my primary lathe.

Do you know if VacuuMaster carries a spindle adapter for 5/8" plain bore? Also, if I start saving for their product, can you post a rough "parts" list of other things I will need to get? Like motor, couplings, guages, etc?

Thanks.

A shop-vac powered unit would work

>Vicmarc makes a plate which can be held by your chuck and attaches to a shop-vac. I use this all the time and it holds really well. What it lacks in inches of vacuum it makes up for with volume of air moving. Installation time is about 30 seconds.

Good topic for chatroom

>I think vacuum chucking would be a great wed night topic. Your discussion about volume versus vac. pressure would be interesting to bounce around.

Look for an email from me. If there is no Shopsmith adapter, it is easy enough to make one.

And I do think this is a good topic for next Wednesday's chat ;-)

Oh so much to learn. I'm glad every day of life is lesson wanting to be learned.

>Hi Kirt

The VacuuMaster chuck was developed specifically for solid headstock lathes, although it will work on any lathe. If you go to my personal website (URL below), I have an article on it. Look for an email from me.
