Couple of garbage cans full of planes

On Bettendorf, Iowa Facebook Marketplace. 2 garbage cans full of planes. Is that really the best way to market tools? LOL I wonder what the ones on the bottom look like?

That's going to happen to everything I own as my daughter has zero interest in all my "junk."

A fettler's dream come true

If you're willing to put in the time, you could probably make a tidy return on that investment, assuming there are any decent, fairly complete planes in that lot. Ha.

Dick,

I like to restore old planes, but that would take more years than I probably have left. LOL

Dang!  Who lets tools rust like that?!  It hurts me to look at them.

You could probably flip them and make money if you had the time but most of those look really bad, like an intelligent woodworker would buy a different plane that is not pitted and will clean up nice.

For my eyes that photo could be a bit of speechless modern infamy!  Infamy co-habitating with blasphemy and disturbing waste.  But maybe not.  Maybe a picture of the results of hoarder theory.

How much does the Marketplace seller want for that barrel full.  It might matter whether the barrel came from an Iowa individual life-long woodworker or from a failed thrift-store-second hand store-country-pawn-shop gone out of business.  I'd have to dump the barrel over on my driveway slowly, cautiously, with help of neighbors and come-alongs and such, and then use a garden rake or such to get to something near a one item spread-out to see what's actually there.  I imagine that barrelful might be the result of an estate cleanout by someone who lacks understanding, an education or sense.

Removing shrouds of rust as depicted in the trashcan contents is not a big deal depending on your approach and willingness to work
.  My favorite approach is this stuff:  image_23701.jpg
