Everclear
I have never lived in a state during my adult life that legally sold 200 proof alcohol. An interesting thought I haven't visited since youth. However, I assure you I wouldn't waste it on bug poop.

Re: Everclear
Hmmm. That used to be around in my college years.
When I went to buy some in a NH state liquor store during the pandemic I expected to see it on the shelf and it wasn't. I asked and they did have it in the back. I had to sign a form stating why I needed it (so much for Live Free or Die!) and got a blank stare when I wrote that I wanted to dissolve shellac.
Re: Everclear
It seems to be a shameful waste of one's ethanol budget to be drinking bug spit solvent when one could be sipping a peaty single malt Isley scotch.
Since I've not experimented with 100 proof Everclear, I wonder how much functional difference there is between it and slightly adulterated 190 proof, especially as it affects clouding, leveling and drying time of shellac finishes. I suspect it has a lot to do with temperature and dew point of the shop's atmosphere.
Re: Another Shellac Question
Wiley I think ever clear in California is the weaker stuff. I have a spot in glendale for denatured 190, building is unmarked, hard to find, pretty shady like a speakeasy but here’s what they sell:
