Sounded legit to me, as there is at least one Better kerf extender out there. I don't have one, so I don't know if it is better than any old piece of metal I happen to have at hand...

I don't know why this is even a thing.

Last time I did half blind DTs I actually forgot to make the saw cuts on one end of one of my drawer fronts. Didn't affect chopping out the waste at all. It wasn't until I was on the second socket I even noticed there were no saw kerfs. I just chiseled to the lines and it worked fine.

Interesting Darrel. Of course that perspective applies to all half blind hand wringing over: The greater difficulty; the more time consumed; the necessity of special chisels; the necessity of funky overcuts; routers and jigs; etc...

The first person to bring up kerf extenders was Tage Frid. Possibly an old trick. It is fast. Rob takes two passes, but one will do.

The fun part is that Tage undercut the sockets, because he believed the glue was strong enough to fill the gap, and as he would say, it meant more money for his wife to spend. I suppose if he was wrong we would know by now. He only undercut the back of the socket, because this trick got the other parts parallel to the cut. But if he had not used the extender, he could have undercut all, or some, of the remaining socket surfaces. Ever practical, he used a section of bandsaw blade to wack in the extensions.
