Can you suggest a nice dovetail layout tool?
I have looked at the set from Lee Valley. They look tempting.
Thanks

>Mark,
I have used the LV set now for 8 years,,,no reason for me to change.
Some people have made their own layout jigs to suit the style of their work....and you could always buy the DT jigs that are very expensive, in the end the DT doesn't care what you lay it out with, the part that matters is how it supports your process of cutting them.
The LV set is the one I most commonly see people using, or if you want a custom angle a small bevel gauge works well.
Take care,
Jim

I usually use my saw and freehand them.

Where's the fun in that? :)

>Hi Mark
I was recently given the LN dovetail marker. This appears to be a blinged version of Rob Cosman's design. It is very nice, comes with 1:6 and 1:7 angles...
The one I have been using for a few years is the WoodJoy. This is a compact and solid tool (but a tad too small for comfort). Comes in 1:6 and 1:8
Making your own is very easy. I posted pictures of two I made recently. The blingy one is 1:7 and the Jarrah is 1:8
Of course, it is easy enough to cut dovetails without a marker (although I would still mark across the board), but where is the fun in that?!
Regards from Perth
