Probably, but I doubt it would be noticeable in this plane; whereas in a larger plane with more body to transverse, maybe. I'm no expert on this, clearly; but I think this is the position held by C&W, at least at one time, back in BP days. I also know the Japanese chop their bed mortises for all the planes I've seen.
