I'm waiting for a forum to try this.......

>Some of you may know that it is possible to have voice communications over the internet. This technology is found under the name "TeamSpeak", amoung others, and it allows participants at websites to speak with each other in real time, using a simple microphone and speakers. I use this very often in another hobby of mine, flight simulation, and almost all gaming sites offer it.. I particularly think it would be great when we have a guest presenter in the chatroom. Wouldn't it be great to talk with, say, Thomas Lie-Nielsen directly, as opposed to typing cryptic messages into the computer? It's like sitting aroung a table and chatting with friends while discussing woodworking. This service is free to the user, but the host probably has to pay some fees. I'm interested to see if Ellis or any of you think some further investigation would be worthwhile.

>Skype would be an ideal and free way for us all to chat/message/conference call. I have not tried conferencing yet, but it's a widely used and proven system, and there is no need to rely on a paid-for or third-party service.

Why don't we publish our Skype names somewhere on WC, or just swap them as we like, and then it would be easy to see when your WC buddies were available for a chat, and we can put voices to some of the names.

There would have to be a general rule not to call up Ellis or anyone else too much ....

My Skype name is just miles.hember so if anyone wants to test it go ahead (but I may be in the office so can't always answer).

cheers

>Miles, I'm not familiar with Skype from personal experience, but will check it out and register. Glad you agree that there is something to probe here.
