>I don't know anything about any of this but was just a wondering about a couple things....
At the auction what was the final high bid price that the plane went for ? you didn't say that the price the original poster said it went for 21000 pounds was wrong I noticed ....was that it?
Leach said the reserve was over $20,000 and you said you would tell anyone what it was...what was the reserve?
Apparently as you state the plane was sold privetly after the auction for over $8,000 US less then the reserve [and maybe over $8,000 less then it's high non reserve reaching high bid]
I am not speaking to this particular case, again I have no first hand knowledge about it so I can't,....but as sombody that has gone to many many auctions everything from $2 beanie babys to million dollar Horses I have to think I know a little about them.
.... OK When people see somthing get bid up high and it doesn't hit the reserve and then that item gets sold privetly by the auctioner in the "parking lot" [or office, bath room, kitchen etc.] for lots less then the reserve or even worse lots less then what the final high bid was you got to sort of figure most people will tend to think somthing smells fishy Now I am NOT saying anything crooked was going on here but just one of those things that makes most experanced auction people go ...Hmmmmm?
...Also some would think it strange for a consigner to have the auctioner sell the plane privetly to somebody that had contacted him [the consigner] about it befor the auction instead of the owner just selling it to them thierselves....Though maybe if it was finaly sold for less then it's the high non reserve reaching bid price it brings up another interesting question was the final auction fee less for the consigner since it was sold for 16,000 instead of not hitting it's 20,000 plus reserve?
...Have to admit to never seeing or hearing an auctioner doing anything like this and while I am not talking about this auction I would personaly consider it a bit unusual
Again I don't know anything about this particular auction one way or the other. But when it comes to stuff like this often more important then if the deal was legit is if the deal looks legit and doesn't come across as being "funny"......Todd
