>Well Bill, I just happen to have my 2506 by my computer with all of the recent discussion... The toe is held in mine with a single screw. I think I just removed it for the first time. I guess I have always just used a chisel to clean up the last 1/2" of a rabbet. The toe on my 2506 is anything but fragile. So much so, that I can't even remove it to verify. The screw was a little rusty. I'm going to need to get some penetrating oil on this.

I wouldn't be concerned about fragility.... perhaps maybe removability for an older one ;-)

>Bill, removing the toe is pretty much a no brainer. Mine doesn't look like it's ever been removed & is retained by a single slotted screw. Nothing about the toe seems fragile to me but I don't know if there are variances in design over the production life of the tool

Well, it looks pretty strong to me - ceratinly strong enough to withstand side-rebating forces.

We're talking a shaving at a time oint-adjusting plane here, not a scrub!
