Hey Adam - workbenches again (sorry)
Michael Recchione
>I'm sorry if everyone's sick of this topic already, but the A&M article in this month's PW raised a question in my mind. Your cartoons all show Nicholson-style benches, with relatively thin tops (or is that just an illusion?) and a very wide skirt. I thought you had moved off the Nicholson bandwagon and on to the Roubo.
Have you landed in the Roubo camp, or the Nicholson camp? Or neither, and these were just easier to draw?
Great article as usual, by the way. Your arguments for placing the bench against the wall got me going - I had succumbed to the prevailing wisdom of 10 years or so ago, that if you could afford the space, a free-standing bench was the way to go. I set up my shop around that concept, and I've both been happy about and regretted that decision a number of times since then (but have mostly been pretty indifferent). But your article has already started me thinking about how I'll rearrange things once I start building my new bench. That will take some major rearranging. I have to keep repeating to my self "If it ain't broke...". :-)
