Chris Schwarz's new DVD

John Clifford

>Just a heads up, Chris the old sly dog has a DVD coming out sold by Lie-Nielsen. I didn't see this coming. Now that he's a "movie star" I suppose we won't see him here much anymore. We can all say we knew him when... You can see the cover of the DVD on LN's home page, comes out in early Feb. I wonder if they'll pay him in planes;)

A couple quick notes *LINK*

Christopher Schwarz

>John,

You touched on something (jokingly actually) that I'd like to address head-on. I won't get paid in planes for the DVD, and actually I won't get paid at all. I can't take money (or planes or intravenous drugs) from companies that I write about.

All proceeds that would go to me are being donated directly to the Early American Industries Association, one of my favorite old tool organizations. Tom Lie-Nielsen did pay for a hotel room for me while I was in Maine, though I took his family out to dinner -- so I think we're square there. I split all my travel expenses with my employer, which supports the project.

I know I kinda sound like a priss writing all this, but I just wanted give you people, many of whom I call friends, the straight story.

As to the DVD's content, I think it will be most helpful to experienced power-tool woodworkers who are just now wading into hand tools. It's a bit of teaching and a bit of evangelizing. Hand-tool purists will beat me like a goat (baaaaa to you too, Adam).

Anyhow, enough bandwidth.

Chris

>Hi Chris, I appreciate the disclosure and I appreciate even more your support of EAIA in this manner. It is a great organization which more of our friends here should join.

I hope that you'll post some pictures from your upcoming event with John Edwards, et al.

>Pish tush. You did the work; you should be allowed the reward. But still, it's a fine way to emphasise your impartiality, if it was ever in doubt. Good on ya, as our antipodean friends might say (that's you Derek, Andrew, et al) :~)

Cheers, Alf

How is the weather out there?

proud to be a GIRLY MAN

frank shic (walnut ck, ca)

>moses, after FREEZING my butt off for the last thirteen years, it's nice to be able to jog in the winter with just a jacket and to look forward to experiencing the seasons SANS winter, not waking up in the morning and finding the car SMOTHERED in snow, not slipping on ice while taking my wife out for dinner (first date), having the garage door OPEN - as long as you don't mind paying the OUTRAGEOUS prices for housing. my little 1200 fixer upper (we're talking EVERYTHING folks) townhome (glued to some redneck renters who enjoy playing pool, shooting darts and drinking beer until 4am) was considered a STEAL at 400k!?!?

>A townhome in sunny California without having to deal with winter - 400K. Having to be Siamese-Twined to your redneck neighbor to the tune of 400K - priceless. Frank, I half envy you. My wife and I vow to someday own a property somewhere that winter doesn't exist, where we'll spend the snowy months away from Chicago. But the part about being attached at the hip to your neighbor (any neighbor) is something I couldn't live with.
