Gloatable Saw?
Mark Kuzee
>While cruising for rust in the past week I spotted a saw that needed closer examination. Hmm. Split nuts,Nib. Some pitting but overall very nice. I didn't recognize the handle but on further investigation I found H.DISSTON clearly without a SON on the medalion. Now I'm geeked. The price was fair but when I got to the counter the lady said that booth is 1/2 off. Oh Well.
After getting it home and cleaning the blade slightly I found the shadow of LONDON. That and the handle shape confirmed my suspicions that it was a #9. An unusual saw comparable to the #12 but no carving on the handle. After consulting a popular website to date the saw I found the model run was 1860 to the early 1900s. Because no Son was listed on the saw I can assume this was an early model. This was easily the oldest saw in my collcetion that I can verify.
Truly a great end to 2005.
Let me save you the trouble....I suck!
P.S. Did I mention the 1920s NOS D8 thumbhole with light surface rust that I found on my way out of the store?
