You are correct, I am trying to find the right person to send it too as I do not feel I am ready to tackle retoothing a dovetail saw yet.

>Hi Thad,

You are correct in thinking this saw was made by Thomas Turner & Co., of Sheffield. They were in operation from about 1837 to, at least, 1932, in Suffolk Works, Suffolk Road.

Up until, at least, 1882, their trade mark did not include the word "ENCORE" (based on advertisements and trade mark lists). However, it is present in their Trade Marks listing of 1901. Apparently, this particular mark was adopted some time between 1882 and 1901. In other words, your saw was likely made some time after 1882.

I'm including a gif of their 1901 Trade Mark.

Hope this helps.

>Don,

Thanks for your help, From somewhere I got the impression it dated from 1900 to 1920. I'll leave it to the experts as to wither or not it is a gloatable find as I paid $12.00 for it.

>Hi Thad,

I think Larry's joking question about being at work was directed to me - as we are now making planes together. Of course, he wasn't at the bench, either, or he wouldn't have known I was posting to WoodCentral. :-)

Assuming the saw is in good condition (other than needing jointed and sharpened), twelve dollars strikes me as moderately gloatable. Nice find!
