Details for an old tool

Bjenk Ellefsen

>I am not sure if I have the right name for it but I have seen a picture of what was named a miter jack (?). Are there any details anywhere that could help in building one and also instruct in its use ? It looked extremely useful and I am very interested in knowing more about this.

When was it used and what could we do with it ?

>Bjenk, I have sent you pictures w/measurements of a miter jack used in a recent school that I attended. I have made one w/two other teachers, but have not completed it yet. I hope that the email was not too large.

If my memory serves, in brief, a miter jack filled in for a donkey ear when cutting a miter on the end of stock that's too long to easily use the donkey ear. I have an old one made by Hammacher & Co. (in the days before he met Schlemmer, I assume).

Below is a link to a thread where someone just built a new one, that might get you to a source ... And, if I find the errant plans, I'll post them here.

I must thank you for the wealth of information you are sharing. Your website is incredibly informationnal and interesting. The "shaker" music stand left me in awe at what you achieved from a picture!

Cheers and thanks again!
