Charlesworth BB incompatible with honing guides

>Or so it seems...
I was sharpening my 60 1/2 blade last night, with the Veritas MK II honing guide. Since the blade had a back bevel on it and I had little time, I didn't want to go to the trouble to remove it.
So I went with 1500 paper and set up the blade in the guide to hone the bevel. when I came to do the back bevel the amount of blade projecting from the honing guide was insufficient to do the ruler trick, so I took it out of the guide and did the back bevel.
I then switched to 9000 paper and reinstalled the blade in the guide. The resulting bevel was just a tad off, enough to force me to hone longer to get the bevel honed up to the cutting edge. Since that was the last grit used, taking the blade out to do the back bevel wasn't an issue anymore.
I am not knocking down the Veritas guide. In fact I believe it's the only one out there that could get me that close to perfect repeatability. But it's still just a hair off.
I'm used to do the blade back without taking it out of the blade, therefore guaranteeing a consistent bevel through the grits. The only way I can see doing that with a BB blade is to use a very narrow and thin shim stock so as not to create too high an angle. Seems to me like a PITA, if you want my opinion...
Any comments, suggestions?
Thnx,
